群馬県 四万温泉の使われなくなった浴場に、evalaが『void inflection』シリーズ最新作を公開しました。浴場内には視覚的なオブジェクトやスピーカーなどの音響機材は見当たらず、一見すると何もない廃墟空間ですが、一歩そこに足を踏み入れると、もうひとつの現実が音と響きによって立ち現われます。

『void inflection』とは、都市空間における「void = 空」の存在を、音と響きによって探求するevalaのサウンドインスタレーション・シリーズです。
シリーズ第一作では、美術館の中庭に突如出現する、異次元の音響仮想空間を生成し（山口情報芸術センター [YCAM], 2011年)、続く第二作では、商店街の中にある取り壊し予定の酒屋跡地にて、その土地で聞いたことのあるような音が、聴いた無いような響きをもって浮遊し、現在と記憶が朧げに交差する音響空間を創出しました (岐阜県多治見市 坂崎酒店跡, 2012年)。

本作はシリーズ第三作目となり、中之条ビエンナーレと同時開催中の「UI」にて展示しています。（〜10月13日まで）

At an abandoned bathhouse in Gunma Prefecture’s Shima Onsen, evala has unveiled the latest work in his “void inflection” series. While the bathhouse appears to be an empty, ruined space—devoid of any visual objects or even speakers—when you step inside, another reality is brought to life by the sound and its reverberations.

“void inflection” is a sound installation series by evala that explores the existence of “void” in urban spaces through sound and reverberation. The first work in the series (YCAM, 2011) created a sudden, otherworldly acoustic virtual space in a museum courtyard. The second work (Tajimi City, Gifu, 2012), which was at the site of a soon-to-be-demolished liquor store in a shopping district, created another acoustic space where familiar sounds from the area floated with unfamiliar reverberations, causing the present reality and memory to blur together. This latest work, the third in the series, is being exhibited at the “Nakanojo UI” event, which is being held concurrently with the Nakanojo Biennale (until October 13).
