PROFILE – evala

江原寛人/evala

Sound artist / Musicianhttp://evala.jp

A Japanese sound artist and musician. He has been creating edgy works of electronic music and exploring auditory experiences through his unique “spatial composition” with the use of 3D sound systems as new instruments. Founder of “See by Your Ears”, which explores the dormant possibilities in hearing, guided by the concept “seeing with one’s ears”.

In 2020, he premiered “Sea, See, She – To you, who is yet to come” based on the concept of “invisible cinema”, a sound-only cinema experience set in complete darkness. He received the Excellence Award at the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival Art Division for the work. In 2021, he received the Prix Ars Electronica Honorary Mention for his 3D immersive audio album “Chosho Hakkei in Rittor Base – HPL ver”.

Recent works include “Alaya Crossing” (2022), which was set at the world heritage site of Yakushiji Temple; “Inter-Scape 22” (Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum 2022); “Haze” (Towada Art Center 2020); a 576-channel sound installation featuring Sony spatial audio technology “Acoustic Vessel Odyssey” (SXSW, Austin USA 2018); installation using an anechoic chamber “Our Muse” (Asia Culture Center, Korea 2018), and “Otocyon Megalotis” (NTT ICC 2013, 2014, 2023 / Sonar+D, Barcelona 2017).
